Okay, we admit it: At first glance, the name “5-minute bread” may sound misleading— You might expect a recipe for bread that’s ready in that time. While we have creative ideas, even we at Scrumdiddlyumptious haven’t managed that yet. However, this delicious recipe is prepared in five minutes, which still makes it the perfect match for busy days. The credo for our 5-minute bread is: Weigh, stir, bake. In an hour, you can take your homemade bread out of the oven and enjoy!
5-Minute Bread with Dry Yeast
This delicious 5-minute bread is ready for the oven in no time, as we use dry yeast for the dough. The simple brilliance with dry yeast is that, in comparision to traditional yeast, it doesn’t need time rest to rise. It can simply be mixed in with the other dry ingredients and the popped into the oven. This will save you both nerves and the hassle of waiting for your dough to be ready. Despite its simplicity, our 5-miute bread does have a small trick: It needs to be placed into a “cold” oven; i.e. one that is not preheated. This ensures the bread bakes evenly as the temperature gradually rises, allowing for a perfectly cooked loaf.
Given that the preparation for our 5-minute bread is very simple, you can experiment with the ingredients. For newer chefs who are coming into cooking, this provides for a veritable playground! Rolled oats and sunflower seeds, or any other seeds, kernels, or nuts may just provide the perfect compliment to your bread. Dried fruit gives the bread a fruity note. If you like, you can also vary the types of flour.
Once ready, let the 5-minute bread cool briefly when it comes out of the oven. Slice it, spread it with butter while still slightly warm, and enjoy your homemade bread with a bold slice of cheese or, if you like it sweet, your favorite jam. Some of the best delights are the simplest!
It seems that, in this case, a little bit of prep really does go a long way! To keep your 5-minute bread fresh for a few days, we recommend storing it in an airtight container, like a Tupperware. This will help maintain its softness and flavor.
