Nothing says spring like a juicy hot dog. And while they're certainly a classic and not something you'd ever turn down, sometimes it's good to mix things up a bit and try new things. That's why we've put our heads together to come up with 2 brand new twists on the tailgate and fair food favorites!
Prep Time 10 minutes mins
Cook Time 4 minutes mins
Total Time 14 minutes mins
- 3 small potatoes
- 3 hot dogs
- 2 cups flour
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 2 tsp paprika
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 3/4 cup sparkling water
Skewer the raw potatoes and cut a spiral all the way around each potato – the skewers will prevent the knife from cutting all the way through.
Remove the skewers and use a potato peeler or apple corer to carefully pull out the center of each potato – the space should be wide enough to fit a hot dog.
Skewer the hot dogs, stick 1 hot dog skewer inside the hollow center of each potato, and pull the potato spirals apart so that they completely cover the length of the hot dogs.
Heat some cooking oil in a large pot to 350°F. Mix the flour, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and sparkling water together with a whisk.
Dip the spiral potato dogs in the batter and fry in hot oil until golden brown, approximately 3-4 minutes.
